New year, new versions of old problems. There are many protections in the contract, but one major pitfall is language that enables the company to push for termination for "admitted or proven dishonesty". While the union remains steadfast in it's belief that this language is intended to protect against theft, the company has taken a stance that this language can be applied to nearly any situation. When they question us, they go on "fishing trips" where they keep asking questions hoping we make a mistake. Keep your answers short and simple. Don't go into elaborate details. If you are not positive, say so. Do not guess.
We are doing an excellent job with the telematics crap, keep up the good work. When telematics was introduced in other buildings and centers, there was a line out the office door every morning. We are proving that we do the job the right way. Chris Robinson and I were asked to speak at the Local's 9.5 committee meeting. We outlined the importance of the 9.5 list and explained what has led to success in our building. Most buildings are just beginning to react to the "new U.P.S" and the 10 hour days. Thankfully, we already have our foundation and have begun to reap the rewards
The U.S and New York State governments continue to increase restrictions and penalties for commercial drivers. The latest law change brings a $2500 fine for texting while driving. U.P.S successfully lobbied to change the license requirement for it's drivers a couple years ago and it seems to be a good time to take advantage of this change. We can carry a normal class d license, so we should give up the commercial licenses unless we need them for outside work.
