IN UNITY THERE IS STRENGTH

October 2008

Many times, we get weighed down with negatives. What we don’t like or don’t agree with. Right now is a good time to accentuate the positives.
U.P.S. resisted following the 3 ½ hour guarantee for part-timers. That guarantee is now enforced and the manager that fought it was shipped out.
The full-time clerk jobs were circumvented. Now those jobs are protected and U.P.S. must pay a four million dollar settlement to the aggrieved clerks. Roughly $ 44,000 each.
The economy is in the midst of a global meltdown. Pension plans are decimated by losses in the trillions of dollars. Our contract includes a clause that assigns responsibility to U.P.S. to guarantee our pension benefit.
The local is now actively engaged in fighting the violations of the “Supervisors working” article.
These are all clear cut examples of what we can aspire to if we stand together, have patience and stay strong.
Please be sure to show your support by attending the general membership meeting, Sunday October 19th.
